Glacier

We stayed at Glacier National Park from August 8th through the 17th.  In order to take in all aspects of the park, we stayed at St. Mary's Campground on the east side of the park and Fish Creek Campground on the west side of the park -- totally different, but both beautiful!

Our campsite at St. Mary's Campground-east side

Our campsite at Fish Creek Campground-West Glacier

From the east side of the park, we took a Red Bus "Jammer" tour across the "Going to the Sun Road" -- beautiful scenery and we got to see some mountain goats at Logan Pass (these buses were nicknamed Jammers in the early days of the park due to the grinding of the gears as the drivers shifted gears; fortunately for us, they all now have automatic transmissions!)

We took an eight mile hike and saw beautiful waterfalls and drove to Many Glacier and saw some pretty cool sights there as well while at the eastern side of the park.

While on the west side of the park, we took a couple of really strenuous hikes (Howe Lake for a total of approximately seven miles, and Avalanche Lake via John's Lake for a total of approximately ten miles).  Saw some beautiful landscape, but were a little concerned during our hikes due to recent "bear signs" observed...we did a lot of shouting "Who Bear!" while taking these hikes!
Hiking to Howe Lake to do some fly fishing!
Example of the signs at ALL the trail heads
Fishing pole - check; bear spray - double check!!
Howe Lake (about 3 1/2 miles after a wrong turn on the trail!)
My fisherman - didn't catch any fish, but got LOTS of bites!
Huckleberries - I didn't know they were real!! Makes a real tasty pie (pie got eaten before picture could be taken...)
John's Lake (about 4 1/2 miles from Avalanche Lake trail head)
Fresh bear scat found right after leaving John's Lake; discussion ensued concerning whether we should continue...
In the spirit of Lewis and Clark, we pressed forward!!
Fresh bear and moose prints found...did we make the right decision?!?!?!?
Boy this trail sure looks like bears are right around the corner
Avalanche Lake - we counted five waterfalls...can you find them?
